Who is responsible for my local waste management?
The Region of Durham is responsible for the collection and disposal of all residential waste in Pickering.  This includes garbage, recycling, green bin, yard waste and large items.

What is the City doing to reduce waste?

  • Innovative Recycling and Waste Unitsimproving waste diversion practices inside and outside our corporate facilities
  • reusing file folders and labels
  • recycling printer toner cartridges
  • coordinating dog waste collection programs
  • discouraging unsolicited sales catalogues and brochures to eliminate extra paper
  • using a self-managed supplier application form, available on the website, to eliminate extra paper
  • collecting old cell phone to be recycled
  • green bin collection in many facilities

What can you do to reduce waste or divert waste from Regional landfills?

Small changes in your daily routine can have a big impact. Make a commitment to do one or two new actions that will help increase diversion and reduce consumption and waste.
