The Pickering Horticultural Society encourages the planting and maintenance of trees, shrubs and flowers on public and private grounds, and offers education on water efficiency, soil improvements, and pesticide-free gardening. 
 
The purpose of the Pickering Horticultural Society is to encourage interest and improvement in horticulture by holding monthly meetings and flower shows, and hosting speakers on a wide range of topics related to horticulture.
 
Members of the Society conduct workshops on potscaping, flower arranging, dish-gardens, physical fitness and other topics. The Society encourages social interaction at all meetings and at seasonal events, such as plant sales, pot-luck dinners, and outings.
