Programs and Facilities for a Healthy and Inclusive City
  • The City of Pickering is committed to providing accessible programs, services and resources: visit Accessible Pickering to find out more
  • We are working on a Cultural Strategic Plan to be completed in December 2009

Sustainable City Facilities

  • Replacement appliances purchased for all facilities must be EnergyStar
  • The relamping of City Hall and the Whitevale Community Centre with low-wattage light bulbs reduces energy use and greenhouse gas emissions while saving the City money. The City has also upgraded air conditioning chillers with non-ozone depleting refrigerants at Recreation and Civic Complexes
  • Expansion of the Pickering Recreation Complex will include converting the HVAC system to a high-efficiency unit, increased insulation to control heat loss, the use of energy-efficient lighting, and a green roof
  • Pickering plants drought-tolerant grasses on municipal property to reduce watering needs

A Sustainable City Fleet

  • Purchase of five hybrid vehicles
  • Purchase of a street sweeper certified by the Air Quality Management District (AQMD) Rule 1186 as PM-10 efficient
