Air Quality

Things Kids Can Do for the Air We Breathe
http://www.airqualityontario.com/science/kids.cfm
This is a one-page document with information about smog and tips to help keep the air clean.

A simple but cool interactive simulation that demonstrates the effects of different weather, environmental factors, and human activities on smog levels and air quality. Be sure to check out the help section and read the information on ground-level ozone first to understand what the simulation is trying to teach you.

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute has this neat site that teaches you about air pollution and tells you how to make 'airborne junk detectors' so that you can look at the stuff that floats around in the air we breathe. Younger kids might need to do this activity with a grown-up.

Active and Safe Routes to School
http://www.saferoutestoschool.ca/
Get together with other kids and families to form a 'walking school bus'! This will help you get active at the same time as it reduces the amount of pollution that goes into the air from vehicles. Check out this site for more information-- the ASRTS Resource Guide has a colouring sheet, a crossword puzzle, and even some stuff about polar bears! Teachers might want to tell parents about this site.
